Discover Nyerere

A River-Led Wilderness

Nyerere National Park forms part of the greater Selous ecosystem, one of the largest protected wilderness areas in Africa. The Rufiji River shapes much of the northern section, where lakes, channels and floodplains attract wildlife.

Unlike many northern parks, safari activities here include boat safaris and, with authorised guides, walking safaris.

The park is quieter than the northern circuit and suits travellers who enjoy a sense of space.
